I've had a few DM's lately asking about fanart etiquette for ChoPro characters. So, I figured I'd go ahead and make an official post detailing how I feel about it.

Please note, that these are my feelings now (Dec 23, 2023), and they may change later. I'll update this post if/when that ever happens.

Let's start with a short summary. TL;DR: I invite every artist to draw any ChoPro characters, so long as the fan art respects the characters, my team, and my project. You're also welcome to sell commissions featuring ChoPro characters (YCH, fan requests, etc.). Fanfiction and fanmusic are welcome, too. Please don't sell merchandise containing ChoPro assets without asking me first.

I wanted to make this post because I've received a few DM's from people asking me about fanart and commission art etiquette. Please note that I'm not making this post in response to any of the fanart I've seen. 100% of the fanart I've seen to date has been great and respectful, and I wish for that to continue!

That said, I'm welcoming any artists who want to make fan art of ChoPro characters to draw them. All the characters are my (Bowser Puma's) intellectual property, but seeing fanart of them fills me with incredible amounts of joy. I'm always so, so grateful to anyone who takes the time to draw them.

Regarding single-client commissions, I have the same feelings. You're more than welcome to sell an art commission, compose a song, or write a story for a customer featuring ChoPro assets. YCH's ("your character here") apply as well! I ask for nothing in return in this situation. No need to pay me or worry about royalties or licensing.

The only thing I'm not giving public permission for is the creation and sale of merchandise featuring ChoPro characters, graphics, or any other assets we have for the visual novel. If you want to create and sell merchandise featuring ChoPro assets, I please ask you to contact me first. We will discuss.

When creating ChoPro fanart, fanfiction, or fanmusic, the only thing I ask is for the piece to be respectful. I realize that's a nebulous term, so I want to discuss some of the things that I personally find respectful and disrespectful. Please keep in mind that these are not comprehensive lists. If you're unsure if the art you want to draw or commission is respectful, you can ask me!

What I find to be respectful:

• Clothed and unclothed depictions of the characters are fine with me.
• Giving characters alternative body types.
  • Making skinny characters fat, or fat characters skinny are fine!
  • Giving characters non-canonical genitals is also fine. This includes non-human genitals.
• Porn is fine!
  • Vanilla and kinky are acceptable!
  • Most fetishes are fine, but I'll mention my blacklist later in this post.
• Portraying characters as alternate versions of themselves.
  • For example: if you wanted to make a mean Dave, a chaste Pat, or a confident Eddy, that would all be okay!
• Non-canonical ships or sexual pairings are okay.
  • For example: if you wanted to draw Chester x Darrell porn, I'd be okay with that! (Please tag me I wanna see 👉👈)
• Joke posts.
  • I make shitposts with my characters all the time! Feel free to poke fun at them in good faith.
  • If the joke is too harsh or derogatory, that is when I will view it as disrespectful.

What I find to be disrespectful:

• Please do not draw porn of my characters doing anything sexually immoral. This includes, but is not limited to: pedophilia, zoophilia, and rape.
• Please do not draw porn of my characters involved in the following kinks (this is a kink blacklist, please keep in mind this is not 100% comprehensive):
  • Incest
  • Scat
  • Gore / Torture / Death
  • Dubious consent / Non-Consent 
  • ABDL / Age Regression / Infantilism
  • Vore (of any kind)
• Please do not draw my characters engaging in acts of bigotry.
• Please do not depict my characters saying or doing anything that is derogating ChoPro's story, team members, character designs, art style, or sound design.
• Please do not depict my characters administering and/or receiving cruel acts of violence.
  • If I was writing a horror story, I would have a different stance on this. But this is a chill slice-of-life type story. I don't want to see my characters depicted in that kind of way.

At the end of the day, I cannot enforce anything I listed above. All I can do is humbly ask for you to respect my wishes if you'd like to create fanart of my project. If you must create fanart of something that I would deem disrespectful, all I ask is that you keep it to yourself and not share it in an online public space. If you're unsure if something is disrespectful, just DM me. We'll talk about it 💖.
